Building Michigan Strong: The Story of Superior Materials' Ready-Mix Concrete

Across Southeast Michigan, our work is part of the landscape. From the roads that connect our neighborhoods to the water towers, schools, and medical centers that serve our communities, Superior Materials’ ready-mix concrete has helped shape the places where people live and work.

For more than 25 years, we have been a trusted partner to contractors, municipalities, engineers, and homeowners who count on us for consistency, communication, and craftsmanship. Our team members bring decades of collective experience to every project, and that knowledge extends beyond technical skill. It shows in the care we take, the relationships we build, and the pride we bring to every pour, because this region is not just where we work. It is our home.

Who We Are

Superior Materials is a ready mix concrete company built around one goal: keeping Southeast Michigan building and thriving. We supply the right mix, delivered on time, across every project type, from MDOT-certified highway work to commercial construction to residential driveways.

Superior Materials ready mix concrete is backed by Votorantim Cimentos, one of the largest cement and building materials companies globally, bringing the stability and resources of a world-class organization to the customers we serve here at home. Our work is guided by Our VC Way: a shared commitment that encompasses several values, including Safety and Health, Ethics and Diversity, Customer Focus, which shape how we operate every day.

What Sets Us Apart

At Superior Materials, every job begins with a commitment to do what is right for our customers, our teams, and our communities. Meeting challenges with precision, adaptability, and care is part of how we live Our VC Way.

Our plants hold National Ready Mixed Concrete Association certification, and our team has the technical depth to create tailored mix designs for complex applications. From high-strength structural concrete and Michigan Department of Transportation-compliant paving to decorative flatwork, porous pavement, and post-tension systems, we bring practical knowledge and accountability to every pour. This expertise has supported Federal Aviation Administration airfields, 49-story towers, and international bridge infrastructure, as well as the neighborhood streets and municipal projects that keep Southeast Michigan connected.

Above all, our people make the difference. Dispatchers who listen, drivers who know the sites, and production teams who Act with Ownership and care. Our insights and reliability turn complex logistics into steady progress. Our shared pride in doing the job safely, responsibly, and well is what continues to strengthen our partnerships and define what it means to build the Superior way. It reflects our commitment to Trust and Simplicity, Customer Focus, and Lasting Results.

Our Company's History

1999

Superior Materials was founded in 1999 through the consolidation of six established regional concrete operations: Cornillie Concrete, EB Metzen, Fendt Transit Mix, Premix Concrete, Superior Redi Mix, and Superior Block & Building Supply. Together, these companies brought decades of combined experience and a customer base that already trusted them to deliver.

Superior Day 1-02

2006

From the start, our growth was intentional. The 2006 acquisition of Kurtz Gravel expanded our aggregate capabilities, and the 2007 merger with Clawson Concrete added delivery operations and locations that strengthened our presence across the region. In 2010, a joint venture was formed between VCNA and Edward C. Levy, and in 2021, VCNA became the sole owner of Superior Materials ready mix concrete, connecting us more directly to the resources, standards, and global reach of Votorantim Cimentos.

Superior Day 1-42

2024

Growth continued in 2024 with the acquisition of Best Concrete & Supply, extending our presence into the downriver region and adding capacity to serve communities we were not previously positioned to reach as effectively.

2026

In 2026, our Detroit Yard #32 underwent a complete rebuild; a full teardown and reconstruction representing a major investment in production capability and long-term efficiency. It is the kind of capital commitment that reflects how we think about this region: we are not managing a footprint, we are building one.
